County Paw Pals extends their sincere and grateful gratitude to Ms. Julia Brown
and her 6th Grade Gifted and Talented Class of Hillsboro Intermediate School for
their gift of $100. The class conducted a long term project of publishing a school-wide
newspaper with the proceeds benefiting Paw Pals’ endeavors to build a county animal
shelter. The timing of this gift was perfect as it is the first to be included in
Paw Pals’ fund raising drive labeled “Take Willie Nelson’s Challenge” where every dollar
is doubled thanks to philanthropists Cheryl and Sam Wyly’s gift to match up to $40,000
during this next year.
Ms. Brown’s class started the first semester of the school year devoted to an in-depth
study of the workings of a newspaper, the different sections, staffing and lay-out.
Beginning in the second semester the paper was published monthly and bi-monthly
and sold to students in the morning during school store time. The students did an
awesome job of interviewing school personnel and writing thought provoking editorials
on current events and trends. The class was composed of Jordon Satterfield, Jazmyn
Washington, Phoebe Alloy, Martha Floy, Carly Shelby, Laurie Daniel, Corey Dominqez,
Austin Buesse, and Lane Walters. The 6th grade class gives much thanks to the leadership
of Ms. Brown for her guidance in leading the class to such a worthy experience that
culminated in a gift that will ultimately benefit all citizens and companion animals
of Hill County. Also pictured in the picture accepting this generous gift is Lana
Crow, Paw Pals’ fund raising chairperson.
Paw Pals has scheduled a public meeting on Thursday at 6:30pm on June 21 at
