Paw Pals Kathy Moore Awarded “Citizen of the Month”
Kathy Moore, long time Hillsboro resident, has been named “Citizen of the Month”. Moore is the founder and director of
the Hill County Paw Pals Low Cost Vaccination and Sterilization Clinic.
This prestigious award is sponsored by Outlets at Hillsboro, KHBR
1560 Radio, the Reporter Newspaper, and
Verona Italian Restaurant. The objective
of this program is to publicly recognize citizens who contribute to the Hill County
community, assist someone in need, and/or make a contribution to our county or its
businesses in anyway to improve the quality of life in greater Hill County. In addition to deserved recognition,
the recipient is provided a $25 Outlets at Hillsboro gift certificate, dinner for
two at a Hill County restaurant, and recognition on Outlets at Hillsboro’s LED billboard,
viewed by nearly 110,000 people each day.
Three years ago, during Hill County Paw Pals early stages,
Moore collaborated with Texas Coalition for Animal Protection, a Denton based non-profit
organization, and founded Hill County’s first ever Low Cost Sterilization and Vaccination
Clinic. During clinic service
days, she spends a minimum of 14 hours overseeing the operation.
She works closely with the veterinarian and veterinary technicians, as well
as 6-10 other Paw Pals volunteers.
Since the inception of this needed clinic, Moore has volunteered over 600 hours. These hours do not include the hundreds
of hours that is spent in coordination and preparation between clinic dates.
This invaluable service has become the tip of the spear in
proactively correcting our county’s pet overpopulation issue and adds no cost to
tax payers. In July, this program reached
a milestone with over 1,500 pet sterilizations.
The entire county benefits by the proactive prevention of unwanted pets in
our already pet overpopulated county.
Each of these pets could have produced a litter of eight resulting in
12,000 additional unwanted pets. In addition to pet sterilizations, this
clinic has also provided nearly 4,000
rabies vaccinations—making our families and communities safer since Hill
County is labeled a rabies quarantine county.
No one ever hears her complain from the exhausting volunteer hours she works to
better our community. Her passion for
the care of animals brings great credit to herself and to our community.
Because of Moore’s past and continued dedication to ending pet overpopulation
and thus ending the dire consequences for animals and citizens alike, the award
of Citizen of the Month is most appropriate.
